Vamos al Camino

Congratulations, you have taken the first step. If you are even considering going on pilgrimage, your journey has already begun. In June of 2026, we will once again answer the call as we embark on the Camino de Santiago Portugues Coastal Route & Variante Espiritual. Are you ready?

I first heard the call back in 2005 when I walked it the first time. That life changing experience marked the end of one major chapter in my life and the beginning of another. Walking it again in 2024, the Spirit moved me to share that experience with other seekers looking to uncover their life‘s purpose through my vocation as a Life Coach. In 2025, I fulfilled that promise and led my first group of peregrinos to Santiago de Compostela. Now it’s your turn.

Camino de Santiago 2026

The Experience

Our small party of peregrinos will walk 100 miles over 11 days in the care of experienced Camino guide Andrea Hooper of Wild Galicia Adventures. Our path will follow the Camino Portugues Coastal Route, taking the Variante Espiritual. Our group took this route last year and it will take your breath away. A combination of grassy shorelines, beautiful pine forested hills, and creekside trails following ancient stone mills. We will navigate up the mouth of the bay where tradition has it that Saint James the apostle, Santiago, first arrived in Iberia to spread the good news. Picture the Puget Sound of the Pacific Northwest with small islands and scallop farms dotting wide rivers. Our days will include group meditation, intentions & reflection, along with individual and group coaching, to help you go deep in a safe and supportive community of fellow pilgrims. By the time we arrive at the plaza and gaze upon the Catedral de Santiago, you will be a different person from who you were when you took the first step.

These are not spots you could easily book for yourself. Accommodations will be shared as part of the peregrino experience, but you can count on hot showers & clean linens all the way.

  • 6 nights of peregrino family dinners - Breaking bread in community is part of the Camino experience. Our guide will lead us to authentic and satisfying local establishments, with several gourmet celebrations, to recharge our bodies. We may even have a home cooked meal or two courtesy of our hosts. Wine and beer are included if desired. Daytime meals and snacks are not included, and 7 evening meals on the Camino will be on your own. This will create opportunities for independent exploration, interaction with other peregrinos and locals, and opening yourself up to what serendipity has in store for you. You are free to branch off and do your own thing at dinner any night if you like, but that will be at your own expense.

  • Ground and marine group transfers - Once you arrive at our first night’s lodging in Porto, we will provide for all of the group’s transportation needs until we reach our destination. This will include train travel to our starting point, several marine peregrino ferries, and several taxi/shuttle transfers along the way. Arrival and departure transfers, personal side trips, and taxis to bypass camino stages are at your own expense.

  • NOTE: Airfare and arrival/departure connections are not included, but I’m happy to answer questions and be helpful as you book your travel.

The Itinerary

  • Gathering - We will greet you with a warm welcome in Porto, Portugal on June 21 at a charming boutique hotel where you’ll have a private room to make your final preparations. In Porto, you will have the chance to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site on your own, participate in our opening intention circle, watch the sunset over the Rio Douro, and enjoy a gourmet welcome dinner together. The following day we will hoist packs, procure our peregrino passports - la credencial de peregrino - at the hilltop Catedral de Se, and depart for our step off point by train.

  • Headed North - After a relaxed morning in Porto exploring and procuring any last needed items, the journey begins in earnest with a train ride to Caminha. This village on the banks of the river Minho, separating Portugal and Spain, is where we will meet our guide Andrea. We will gather for a Peregrino Shell ceremony, enjoy a group dinner, and get a good night’s sleep before launching. This is where you’ll collect your first of many stamps in your credencial, the means of proving that you legit completed the journey on foot that will earn you your peregrino diploma - La Compostela - at journey’s end.

  • Crossing Over & Stepping Off - We will wake up early to greet the day, and our boat! The Xacobeo Transfer ferry will take our group across to the southern shore of Galicia, a mystical experience. Once we disembark, every step from then on moves us closer to Santiago. We end Day 1 at Andrea’s home in the beautiful seaside village of Oia. An ancient monastery overlooking a small fisherman’s cove casts a spell as the sun sets. We will enjoy a group dinner with local friends, family and a traditional Galician Queimada ritual.

  • The Camino Calls - We begin and end each day with group meditation, reflection, and encouragement. The first 2 days we will walk approximately 12 miles, scaling back to 8-9 miles on average after that. It is more manageable than you might think, provided that you have trained well, listen to your body, and go at your own pace. Andrea and I will be there to support you every step of the way, but you are always in control of your own journey, what you need, and what you are up for.

Cada quien tiene su propio Camino” - Each person owns their own Camino

Over the next 10 days, each one will bring new scenery, challenges both physical and spiritual, and the inspiration that only the Camino can provide to embrace them. This is where the Camino Magic, the personal transformation really happens. Each day will start with a gear & water check, group meditation and stretching, and an intention circle where we will reflect on and confide what is revealing itself to us as we go. I will check in with you daily for what you sense you’re looking for that day in terms of coaching from me. Some days you will want some focused 1 to 1 coaching as we walk. Others you may feel more drawn to solitude or the company of fellow seekers. Let your intuition guide you. I will be there to support and encourage your discovery on your terms.

  • The Arrival - Our last day will be our shortest. We will Arrive in Santiago on the morning of July 3rd in time to attend the pilgrim’s mass at the Catedral de Santiago, the shrine where the remains of St. James the Apostle bear witness to centuries of peregrinos completing their vision quest. Upon presenting your thoroughly stamped credencial at the parish peregrino center, you will receive the Compostela that proves you completed the pilgrimage. After dropping off our gear at the hotel and enjoying lunch, we will travel by shuttle to the peninsula of Finisterre, literally ‘the ends of the earth’, which was the original destination for the Camino when St. James first encountered it. Our fellowship will conclude with a seaside ceremony, followed by a final celebratory dinner as we reflect on our shared journey. As we watch the sun ‘die’ across the Atlantic from the lighthouse at the end of the world, we become part of a legacy of peregrinos who have done so from the same spot for thousands of years.

  • The Journey Home - When you wake up on July 4th the future is yours! What you do from here, including your travel and lodging onward, is up to you. You may plan to depart for home, or you may want to stick around to enjoy the fabled city. Whatever you do, it will be amazing.

Ultreia et Suseia!

Onward and Upward- the peregrino’s encouragement. Embracing the Camino de Santiago and all that it has to teach has been among the most profound experiences of my life. It fundamentally transformed me, not by making me someone else, but by helping me bless and release that which no longer served me. Everyone who feels called by Providence to take the Camino is at a different place in life, but on the road to Santiago we walk the path together.

An Unexpected Journey

Has the universe ever had other plans for you than what you had in mind? In May 2024, I embarked on an unexpected journey. I had been planning and training to walk the Camino Francés for several years with my best friend Eddie. That all got swept away though by his untimely passing a week before our trip. In that moment of vulnerability, Spirit led me to surrender control and take a new path altogether. Led by Divine Inspiration, I knew that I needed to go see Eddie’s cousin Tanya, who ran a pilgrim hostel on the Galician coast. I abandoned my plan and chose instead to take the Camino Portugues de la Costa. Trusting in the voice of Providence, I took a leap of Faith and was once again transformed by the revelations only the Camino can offer. Now, my path calls me to share this experience with others, while combining it with my vocation as a coach. Heeding that call, I invite you to listen deeply to see if you hear it too. If you do, join us on the pilgrim road to go in search of… yourself.
